St. Anthony of Padua Prayers

NOVENA to St. Anthony of Padua

OPENING PRAYER

Leader: Gracious Father, we thank you for giving us St. Anthony of Padua as a model of someone who lived the Gospel faithfully. With complete trust in you may we, like St. Anthony, always seek your face in our brothers and sisters that we may serve and love one another and build the heavenly kingdom here on earth where You live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

NOVENA PRAYER

All: St. Anthony, glorious Wonderworker, father of the poor and comforter of the afflicted, I ask for your help. You have come to my aid with such loving care and have comforted me so generously. St. Anthony, glorious for the fame of your miracles, obtain for me from God's mercy, this favour that I desire (mention your request here). Since you were so gracious to poor sinners, do not regard my lack of virtue but consider the glory of God, which will be exalted once more through you by the granting of the petition that I now earnestly present to you. Accept this offering of my devotion and love and with it my earnest promise to live always in the love of God and my neighbour. Continue to shield me graciously with your protection, and obtain for me the grace of being able, one day, to enter the Kingdom of Heaven to praise, with you, the everlasting mercies of God. Amen.

PRAYER to St. ANTHONY

All: O Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, you were chosen by the Lord to lead us on the path of life in simplicity, humility and joy, with love for all creation and detachment from all things. God in his mercy granted you, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which you were ever ready to speak for those in trouble or anxiety. O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the Sweet infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms. Pray for me, that the passionate fire of our Lord will be enkindled in my heart so that I will seek only God's greater glory and the salvation of souls.

St. ANTHONY'S BLESSING

Behold, the Cross of the Lord!
Be gone, all evil powers!
The Lion of the tribe of Judah,
The Root of David, has conquered!
Alleluia, Alleluia!

St. ANTHONY'S PRAYER for the HELP of THE HOLY SPIRIT

O God, send forth your Holy Spirit into my heart that I may perceive, into my mind that I may remember, and into my soul that I may meditate. Inspire me to speak with piety, holiness, tenderness and mercy. Teach, guide and direct my thoughts and senses from beginning to end. May your grace ever help and correct me, and may I be strengthened now with wisdom from on high, for the sake of your infinite mercy. Amen.

GOOD St. ANTHONY PRAYER

Good Saint Anthony, in God's providence you have secured for his people many marvellous favours. You have been especially celebrated for your goodness to the poor and the hungry, for finding employment for those seeking it, for your special care of those who travel, and for keeping safe from harm all who must be away from home. You are widely known also, good Saint Anthony, for securing peace in the family, for your delicate mercy in finding lost things, for safe delivery of messages, and for your concern for women in childbirth. We honour you, good St. Anthony, for the many graces our Lord grants through your favour. May your spiritual help always make us strong, and by your assistance may we enjoy an eternal reward with all the saints in heaven. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

St. ANTHONY'S WRITING about the CRUCIFIX

Christ who is your life is hanging before you, so that you may look at the Cross as in a mirror. There you will be able to know how mortal were your wounds, that no medicine other than the Blood of the Son of God could heal. If you look closely, you will be able to realize how great your human dignity and your value are .... Nowhere other than looking at himself in the mirror of the Cross can man better understand how much he is worth.

DISCIPLESHIP PRAYER of St. ANTHONY

Let us lean on the Cross of Christ, just as travelers lean on a staff when they begin a long journey. We pray for the Passion of Christ to be deeply embedded in our minds and hearts, because only from it can we derive peace, grace, and truth. Amen.
